How Fiction Addiction Works
Your story on the show
Submit a short bio and an excerpt from your short story or serial. Aim for 250–300 words; the maximum is 300. You can also include an optional setup of up to 50 words to give readers any context they need.
We’ll select seven authors for the episode on Substack Live. A host will introduce you and read your excerpt aloud in about two minutes. Each of the three judges will then have a minute to discuss it.
What you’ll hear from readers
Viewers can read along and use a private form to share how your story made them feel, using Goati Emotis. They’ll also choose PASS, TEMPTED, HOOKED, or ADDICTED to tell you whether they would keep reading—from passing on the story to wanting more right away.
Play Fiction Prediction by matching the judges’ Goati Emotis: each selection earns one point per matching judge, or loses two points if no judge chose it. Unselected reactions are not penalized; Addiction levels are not scored. Every featured story includes links to read more and subscribe to its author’s publication.
The next episode’s date will be announced soon. Subscribe above for Fiction Addiction updates.
